4 Steps You Need to Do Before Purchasing Any Decor
#1: PICK A STYLE BY UTILIZING A PINTEREST BOARD
Start saving all of the photos you like of different houses on a Pinterest Board. Don’t overthink it! If you like it, save it. Make sure you save pictures of every room that you have; bathroom, kitchen, bedroom, laundry room, etc. Now from that list, start deleting anything that doesn’t feel like YOU. Once you’ve done that, analyze your board and see if you are noticing a trend. If you see the same style shining through, you’re getting close to your style!! If you see a couple different styles sticking around, think about which one makes sense for your space. You are allowed to mix styles, so don’t feel like you HAVE to stick to just one.
#2: ANALYZE WHAT YOU HAVE
What furniture do you already have? Can it work with the style you want? Are you going to let one piece dictate the future of your space, or can you let it go? These questions don’t have to be answered in one day. Think it over! Maybe you can still use that couch that your grandma gave you, but it goes in your office instead of the living room! Take some time and really think about what you want your space to look like.
#3: RECOGNIZE THE THINGS THAT WON'T CHANGE
Whether you are in an apartment or a house, there are some things that maybe won’t change for awhile (if ever). Even if you wanted to change them, you may not have the financial resources to do so, your landlord won’t allow it or you don’t have the time to. Some things that might not change could be your floors, the layout of your space or the size of your space. Take note of these, accept them and roll with them! They can be obstacles, but it doesn’t mean your style won’t work or you can’t make your space feel like your own!
#4: MAKE A LAYOUT OF YOUR FURNITURE
You are not picking out furniture in this step, just deciding where it’s going to go! This will help you in knowing what to shop for. Don’t say, “oh, I’ll just put a couch or some chairs over there.” Plan it out!! Before browsing online or in store, you should have a pretty good idea of what you’re looking for.
Putting a space together takes TIME and it’s not something you need to rush. Happy Decorating!!!
